CANNES: Shortly after Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby begins, cracks whole movie into a wild outburst of celebration and decadence. The next hour is a visual orgasm of dreamy film performance, where Luhrmann do what we know he can as well.
He tries almost to surpass their own films as Romeo + Juliet and - particularly - Moulin Rouge terms of colorful fireworks on canvas. But then the party ended and the film faded. Everything that comes afterwards is almost bound to be an anticlimax. There is simply not enough drama in history last part that I manage to keep the interest on the same.
And the film goes a little too long with its 2 hours and 22 minutes, and allows me to know from boredom come crawling. We see a man obsessed with their hopes and dreams, and who see no reason why they should not be fulfilled. The figure might exist in the 1920s, but live out universal issues that are relevant today. You do not disappoint Birger! Have been looking forward to this for a while and have high expectations, although I do not think Romeo + Juliet was a highlight I liked Moulin Rouge very well. Have read the book and liked it very much! Also as usual enormous expectations for Leonardo DiCaprio! Give the man the Oscar he so deeply deserves!
Sometimes I wonder what motivates dice. Besides heart beats a little extra for Carey Mulligan Baz Luhrmann has also made several good films, so this I'm going to see, but know that expectations are now somewhat lower now after reading this review. I liked Copple version 70tallet, have seen it many times, and read the book. I've only seen the trailer, and this seems like an excellent production, with music that does not fit with 20years.
